Fusion d'époque
1950s tailoring meets Playful modern androgyny
FASHION DESIGN PROJECT
This was a personal project where I developed fashion designs from research, processed it with collages, prototyped, sourced materials, and finally cut and sewn every garment.
INSPIRATION
A collection for the modern urban dweller, reimagining 1950s tailored silhouettes through an androgynous minimalist lens. Quiet elegance meets playful wit, as Dada-inspired prints enliven the muse who moves with grace and adores her cats.

RESEARCH & COLOUR PALETTE
SILHOUETTE COLLAGES
Merging 1950s glamour dresses with androgynous tailoring, I created new shapes. This is a framework for all of the following designs and experimentations.
DETAILS RESEARCH & SKETCH
I looked into possible details including buckles, buttons, and pleats.
DRAPING: PROTOTYPE WITH BASIC SHAPES
By draping simple geometric forms, such as the rectangle, onto the mannequin, I explored how non-stretch calico fabric responds in shaping the desired silhouette.
DRAPING: PROTOTYPE EXPLORED WITH READY-MADE GARMENTS
Then I experimented with two blazers, which are relevant to my research, to further explore new ways to achieve the desired silhouette.
TROUSERS
I collaged with more images to explore how details should influence the movement of the garment. I then prototyped and iterated on the design with sketches.

FINAL LINEUP: SKETCHES
I concluded my initial design ideas with a lineup of outfit sketches detailing front and back designs.
